What Is the APS Certificate and How Do You Get One?

2026-05-285 min

The APS (Akademische Prüfstelle / Examination Board) certificate is a mandatory verification process for students who completed their bachelor's or master's studies in certain countries, including Turkey, before applying to a German university. Its purpose is to confirm the authenticity of your diploma and academic record.

The process begins with uploading required documents (diploma, transcripts, high school diploma, ID, etc.) online; the documents are then reviewed, usually followed by an online or in-person interview.

Once approved, you receive an APS certificate — a mandatory part of both your university application and your student visa process; most German universities won't evaluate your application without it.

The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, so if you're planning to study in Germany, it's important to start your APS application as early as possible.

At Studiva, we manage the entire process with you, from preparing the required documents for APS to tracking your application.
