History

Founded in 1877, TU Darmstadt became the first German university to establish an independent computer science ('Informatik') faculty in 1972, a leading position it has held ever since.

In 2005 it became the first German state university to gain autonomous status, giving it more independence over curricula, staffing and budget than most public universities.

A TU9 member, TU Darmstadt hosts some of Germany's leading cybersecurity research centers, including CRISP and CYSEC.
