History
TU Dresden traces its roots to the Technische Bildungsanstalt Dresden, founded in 1828, and has grown into one of Germany's most comprehensive technical universities.
A member of the TU9 alliance, TU Dresden has held Excellence University status continuously since 2012, coordinating close cooperation with the city's Max Planck, Fraunhofer and Helmholtz institutes through the 'DRESDEN-concept' research alliance.
The Dresden region is home to 'Silicon Saxony', one of Europe's leading microelectronics and semiconductor manufacturing clusters, giving the university strong ties to industry.
