History
DHBW's roots trace back to the Berufsakademie Baden-Württemberg, founded in 1974. Conceived as an entirely new type of educational institution at the time, it grew quickly to include locations across the state.
In 2009, the Baden-Württemberg state parliament granted this 35-year-old, successful model full higher-education status, transforming the Berufsakademie into the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW). By that point, enrollment had surpassed 23,000 students, working with more than 8,000 partner companies.
Today, spread across numerous campuses throughout Baden-Württemberg and working with thousands of partner companies, DHBW offers students a model that alternates theory and practice in three-month cycles, and is considered the pioneer of Germany's dual studium system.
