History
Founded in 1907 as the Handelshochschule Mannheim (Mannheim Commercial College), the institution was established through the efforts of then-mayor Otto Beck and economist Eberhard Gothein. Absorbed into the University of Heidelberg under the National Socialist regime in 1933, it reopened after the war in 1946 and gained full university status in 1967.
The university is housed in the historic Mannheim Palace (Schloss Mannheim), Europe's second-largest Baroque palace after Versailles — a distinctive setting that visually sets it apart from other German business schools.
Today, Mannheim consistently ranks among the top German universities for business and economics, with a strong international exchange network and a research-driven academic culture.
